Maintenance

A car bike rack, makes an ideal holder for your bike while performing maintenance.
Ensure your tyre pressures are correct before any trip, correct tyre pressure ensure proper contact with the road, and prevents pinch flats.
Shift your rear cog onto the smallest ring before removing your rear wheel, it will make removal much easier.
Presta valves, are very delicate, be sure to support the valve while pumping with a hand pump, this can be done by holding the head of the pump with your other hand and hooking a finger around an a spoke.
When on a ride if a sharp object such as glass makes a large hole in your tyre, when replacing the tube put a plastic $5 note inside the tire over the slash, this will prevent the tube from pushing out through the hole when reinflated, and get you home.
Good quality glueless puncture repair patches, are easier to apply and have a lower profile, making them better for use in thin road tires.
A noisy chain is an indication that your drivetrain is dirty. A dirty drivetrain will result in excessive rider effort, and excessive wear.
